You have envisioned your wedding day since you were a little girl, and now it is a reality! The planning can feel overwhelming at times but it is important to keep in mind that after the cake is cut, all the farewells are said, and after several years a marital bliss have passed- you are left with only the wonderful memories from that special day.
A wedding is cause for a celebration, so why not stretch it out for as long as you possibly can? You are coming together with family and friends to create memories that will last a lifetime, so making the most of the time you have with them is extremely important.
Three-day wedding celebrations are currently one of the hottest trends in the wedding industry. They are great for those who have guests that are traveling a long distance, for those who want to spend more quality time with friends and family, and for those who want to provide enough time to allow for guests to meet each other.
Whether you are traveling to an exotic location for a destination wedding, or celebrating somewhere close to home; a little creativity and planning will make your wedding a fascinating trip for you and your guests to enjoy. You can keep the festivities rolling all weekend long by incorporating the following:
The Welcome Party: If most of your guests are coming from out of town, or if they are just people that you have not seen in a while, a welcome party is a great way to start the weekend festivities. A welcome party should be planned for the day before the wedding, when most guests are arriving, and can be held either before or after the rehearsal dinner. The location should be a relaxed environment where you and your guests can hang out and have fun. Such as- a relatives home, local bar (for convenience- the bar at the hotel where most guests are staying works well), or an outdoor park pavilion.
The Rehearsal Dinner: On the eve of the wedding, everyone is in great anticipation for the day to come. Starting the celebration with a casual and intimate dinner filled with good food, champagne toasts and all-around good cheer is a must. Traditionally, rehearsal dinners are held in a hotel banquet room or local restaurant, and include a full-course dinner and dessert. However, many are held at a family members home and can be a simple hors d’oeuvres and cocktail event or a backyard barbeque. The rehearsal dinner is a good time for the bride and groom to present the attendants’ gifts, and show gratitude to all those who took part in the wedding planning process. Additionally, the rehearsal dinner is a great time to show appreciation to those who have played an important role in helping the happy couple develop into the people they are today.
The Newly-Wed Brunch: A post-wedding brunch is a great way for the newlyweds to give thanks and spend more time with guests before heading off on a honeymoon and to beginning their future lives together. The best location for a newlywed brunch is at the hotel where the majority of the guests have stayed, or at a family member’s home.
The most important aspect of any wedding celebration is to enjoy your day and have fun! No matter what your budget is, any additional event that you add to your wedding weekend will be a great opportunity to spend more time and create more memories with your family and friends.
