The Right Jewelry for Your Gown

You’ve searched and searched for the perfect wedding gown. You’ve had a practice run on your hair style.  You’ve scheduled a manicure and pedicure.  You’ve agonized over the right veil and shoes.  Don’t forget one of the most important details of your wedding wardrobe…Your jewelry.  Accenting your gown with the right style of jewelry is crucial to pulling together the look you desire and adding that extra sparkle that will be immortalized in photos.

Style is an essential element when choosing bridal jewelry. Keep in mind that the bridal jewelry should not overpower or understate the wedding gown. It should undoubtedly accentuate the bridal gown. The bridal jewelry set should fall in line with the common theme of the wedding attire. If the bridal gown is adorned with Swarovski crystal beading then the wedding jewelry set should be have the same sparkle and shine. If the wedding gown is garnished with pearls and silver accents then pearl bridal jewelry would be a great choice. Most importantly, the bridal jewelry set should reflect the bride’s personal style.

Let your hairstyle, headpiece and necklace dictate the earrings you choose. Chunkier styles and those with a drop look great with upswept hair, whereas simple studs or small bejeweled hoops may be the perfect addition to a dramatic necklace or decorative veil or tiara.

When choosing a necklace, consider the cut of the dress.  If it’s strapless, a necklace closer to the neck looks best. If it’s a halter top, don’t think you can’t wear a necklace.  A pearl choker looks stunning with a halter top.  A slightly longer, 18 inch necklace is the right look for a V neck or sweetheart neckline.

A lot of brides feel they should not wear a necklace because their dress is beaded or that they are wearing glamorous earrings.  A necklace can complete the bride’s look.  Don’t rule out a necklace without trying one on with your dress.

You may want a big look but can’t afford the price tag with the expense of the wedding.  Sterling Silver and Cubic Zirconia jewelry offers a lot of shine with a lower price. Swarovski crystal jewelry is another option for a lot of bling without a lot of money.

Remember that the jewelry you wear on your wedding day will be an heirloom in the future.  It will be something you pass down to your daughter or your granddaughter to wear on her wedding day.  So whatever style or metal you choose be sure it will last a lifetime and will be a classic look.

Don’t forget your bridesmaid’s jewelry as well.  It is always good to give the bridesmaids guidance on what type of jewelry you prefer. To make it as easy as possible, offer to purchase necklaces or bracelets for everyone as a part of their bridal party gift. This will ensure that you achieve a consistent and beautiful look on your big day.
